The Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), still called the Coastal Road by many motorists, runs along Manila Bay from the Parañaque toll plaza to Kawit, Cavite. It is the main artery for commuters from Bacoor, Imus, and Kawit heading to Manila and Makati.
How CAVITEX toll collection works
CAVITEX is an open (barrier) system — you pay a flat fee at the toll plaza depending on how far along the expressway you travel: the R-1 section to Zapote, or the full extension to Kawit.
RFID and payment
CAVITEX is part of the MPTC network and uses Easytrip RFID — the same tag as NLEX, CALAX, SCTEX, and MCX.

Tips for CAVITEX motorists
- Northbound traffic into Manila is heaviest 6–9 AM; the NAIAX connection helps airport-bound drivers skip it.
- The CAVITEX C5 Link now connects toward Taguig/BGC — useful if you work in the BGC area.
- Flooding can affect approach roads during heavy monsoon — check advisories in typhoon season.
Why CAVITEX Is Called Coastal Road
Most drivers never say "Manila-Cavite Expressway". The road is known almost universally as Coastal Road, after the reclaimed coastal stretch along Manila Bay that the original R-1 segment was built on. Road signs, radio traffic reports and navigation apps all use both names, so "Coastal Road toll fee" and "CAVITEX toll fee" mean the same thing — and the fares on this page cover either.
The expressway is officially designated R-1 and runs from Roxas Boulevard in Parañaque down through Zapote to Kawit, Cavite, with the R-1 Extension continuing along the bay. It is operated under the Metro Pacific Tollways group and uses Easytrip RFID, the same sticker that works on NLEX, SCTEX, CALAX and CAVITEX — but not on Skyway, SLEX or STAR, which run on Autosweep.
