The Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) extends Luzon's expressway spine from Tarlac City north to Rosario, La Union — the foot of Kennon Road and Marcos Highway to Baguio. Thanks to TPLEX, Manila to Baguio is now a 4-hour drive.
How TPLEX toll collection works
TPLEX is a closed system — fees depend on entry and exit. The Rosales, Urdaneta, and Rosario exits are the busiest for tourists heading to Pangasinan beaches and Baguio.
RFID and payment
TPLEX is a San Miguel tollway and uses Autosweep RFID. If you came up via NLEX and SCTEX (Easytrip), note that TPLEX switches you to the Autosweep network at Tarlac — carry both tags for a Baguio run.
Popular TPLEX routes
- Tarlac to Rosario — the full run for Baguio via Marcos Highway.
- Tarlac to Urdaneta — for Manaoag Church pilgrimages.
- Tarlac to Rosales — for the Hundred Islands via Alaminos.
Tips for TPLEX motorists
- Holy Week and Panagbenga (February) traffic to Baguio is intense — travel at night or pre-dawn.
- Fuel up at Tarlac; stations get sparse along TPLEX's northern half.
- The Rosario exit queues badly on long weekends; some drivers exit at Sison and take the old road.
Official exits and rate basis
TPLEX exits are La Paz (Tarlac City), Victoria, Gerona, Paniqui, Moncada, Carmen (for Rosales), Urdaneta, Binalonan, Pozorrubio, Sison and Rosario.
Toll rates shown are regularly updated reference values. Actual fees at the toll plaza prevail. Always verify with the official Toll Regulatory Board or operator advisories before long trips.
