Fuel Cost Calculator

Budget the whole drive, not half of it. Enter your distance, your car’s fuel efficiency and today’s pump price — then add the toll, which we publish exactly.

Two costs, two kinds of number

A road trip budget has a fixed half and a moving half, and it helps to treat them differently.

Toll is fixed and published. It does not depend on your car’s condition, your driving, or the price of oil. For a Class 1 vehicle on a given entry-to-exit pair there is one official figure, and it changes only when the Toll Regulatory Board approves a new one. Every toll on this page is that published figure.

Fuel is yours alone. Two cars on the same trip on the same day can differ by half again, depending on engine, load, aircon, tyre pressure and how heavy your right foot is. Nobody can quote your fuel cost from a table — which is why the calculator above asks for your numbers instead of assuming them.

Tap Add to calculator and the toll is carried into the form above, so you only have to supply the distance, your kilometres per litre and the pump price.

Class 1 is cars, SUVs, vans and jeepneys; Class 2 buses and light trucks; Class 3 heavy trucks and trailers. One way, VAT-inclusive. Double them for a round trip.

How many litres will the trip take?

This part is pure arithmetic — distance divided by kilometres per litre — so it stays true whatever fuel costs this week. Find your efficiency across the top and your distance down the side, then multiply the litres by today’s pump price.

Distance 8 km/L 10 km/L 12 km/L 14 km/L 16 km/L
50 km 6.3 L 5.0 L 4.2 L 3.6 L 3.1 L

Typical fuel efficiency by vehicle

Ranges, not promises — treat them as a starting guess until you have measured your own. To measure it: fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive normally, fill up again, then divide the kilometres travelled by the litres it took. That single number makes every estimate on this page accurate for your car rather than an average one.

  • Small hatchback or sedan: 12–18 km/L on the expressway
  • Midsize sedan or crossover: 10–14 km/L
  • SUV or pickup: 8–12 km/L
  • Diesel van: 9–13 km/L

Why expressway mileage beats city mileage

Most cars return their best figures at a steady 80–100 km/h in top gear, which is exactly what an expressway allows. City driving wastes fuel three ways: accelerating away from every stop, idling in traffic while burning fuel and covering no distance at all, and running the aircon hard at low speed with little airflow through the condenser.

The practical consequence for a budget: if you know your car does 9 km/L around Metro Manila, it will most likely do better than that on NLEX or SLEX. So an estimate built on your city figure is a safe one — it will overstate the cost rather than leave you short.

Diesel or gasoline

Diesel engines are generally more efficient per litre, so a diesel van can cover more ground on the same volume than a gasoline crossover. Whether that makes a particular trip cheaper depends on the gap at the pump that day, and the two fuels move in price independently. Work in litres first, then apply the price you actually pay — that keeps the comparison honest.

One thing fuel type does not affect is the toll. Vehicle class is set by size and axle count, so a diesel SUV and a gasoline SUV are both Class 1 and pay exactly the same at the plaza.

Questions

Does this fuel calculator include toll fees?

Yes, if you enter them. The toll field is optional and starts empty. The quickest route is to tap "Add to calculator" on any trip in the table above, which carries the published toll straight into the form. For your own entry and exit, get the exact figure from the toll calculator on the homepage first.

Why does it not fill in the fuel price for me?

Because pump prices in the Philippines change most weeks, and they differ between brands and between provinces on the same day. A price baked into this page would be wrong more often than right, and a wrong number presented confidently is worse than an empty field. Enter what you actually paid, or what the station near you is charging today.

What fuel efficiency should I use if I do not know mine?

Start at the lower end of the range for your vehicle type in the list above. An estimate that comes in slightly high is a better travelling companion than one that leaves you short at a plaza. Once you have measured your real figure with a tank-to-tank test, use that instead.

Is a round trip simply double?

For fuel and toll, effectively yes, and the round-trip toggle does exactly that. Tolls are charged for each passage, and the distance home is the same. What doubling will not capture is a detour, a different route back, or a side trip along the way.

Are the toll figures on this page current?

They are the official published rates held on this site, the same figures behind every route page, and they are checked against the operators whenever rates change. The fee charged at the plaza always prevails.
